When the hens cooperate

Farm eggs in a crate with backyard hens in the yard

The chickens are not a side project. They are part of the day — underfoot in the farmyard, talking in the shade, following whoever is carrying the basket.

When the girls are laying well, there are eggs. When they aren't, there aren't. That's the honest version, and it's the only version we tell.

The dog comes along. The ducks keep their own counsel. Someone still has to mow more grass than anyone should own.

If you want a dozen, ask. We'll tell you what the week actually looks like.
