Chickens, the coop, and the bee yard at Rustin Farms

Our Farm

Home, between two lakes.

This is our homestead in Lutz — a place we live, work, and keep changing.

Rustin Farms is where we live. It's the animals, the bees, the lakes, the projects, and a piece of Florida we keep trying to do right by. More of that story belongs here as we go.

Between the Lakes

Northshore on one side. Southshore on the other. The homestead sits in the middle: bee yard, pollinator garden, farmyard, lawns, and the house. Lake life is not a backdrop. It is the shape of the place.

The Dawgs

The dogs have the run of the porch — and the lake, when they can talk us into it. They are part of the day here, same as the flock and the hives.

The Ducks

The ducks keep their own schedule on the lawn between the lakes. They show up, they wander, they remind us this is a homestead, not a set.

Wildlife

The place isn't just ours. Cardinals at the feeder, owls on the kayak, whatever finds the water. We share the shoreline.

Around the Farm

There is always a project. Some days that's a hive. Some days it's a tree on the ground. We work the place as it comes.

The land

Lawns, meadows, shade, and more grass than anyone should own. There is always a project — mowing, planting, fixing, starting something we will finish when the weather and the bees allow.

The pollinator project

We keep a pollinator garden and we keep adding to it. It is one of the places the bees work, not the only place. Florida blooms well beyond the fence, and we don't pretend otherwise.

The apiary

We maintain our own colonies and work them ourselves. The honey that comes off the place is harvested here, in small batches, when the hives can spare it.

Life on the water

Evenings end on the lake more often than they end on a plan. A rod, a kayak, the last light. Rustin Farms is a private homestead and is not open to the public.
